As we are approaching the first AI4Copernicus Open Call launch date a series of info webinars, where experts from the corresponding domains of the project like Energy, Security, Health and Agriculture, will provide useful information and tips concerning the Open Calls submission process. More specifically, four sessions will be held virtually, starting in May until September, with a duration of 30 minutes, each time in regard to a different domain.

The first session was already held on 31 May 2021. The invited speaker was Mr Richard Hall, from our partner company Equinor, who expanded on the domain of Energy.

Short bio: A geographer by education specialising in the interpretation of satellite images. He has been fortunate enough that his fieldwork has taken him around the world, but strangely, never across the equator. A journey that started in mid-Wales has taken him from the tropical islands of Malaysia to the ice floes off the coast of Greenland.

Today, Richard ensures Equinor gets the most out of satellite images by extracting relevant information for colleagues so they can make good decisions to safely turn natural resources into high-value energy, with a low carbon footprint. The most important lesson he has learnt, whether it’s measuring water quality in Malaysia or the size of ice-floes off the coast of Svalbard, is that the key to success is collaboration
